I may be prone to occasional hyperbole, but I’m going to come right out and say it: Cameron Mackintosh’s Les Miserables at Norwich Theatre Royal is truly the best stage production I’ve ever seen.

Fancy learning from an expert mixologist how to make your own perfect concoction to wow family and friends? Mindful Mixology has launched a fun 1.5 hour Cocktail Masterclass, which they run from various venues in Norfolk (next up is Star Plain Stores in Holt on 20 Oct; booking is essential). Winner of a three-star Great Taste Award 2022 for their Lychee Martini (and a one-star award for the Grapefruit Margarita), Mindful Mixology create classic cocktails with a twist and using less sugar (sweetening alternatives include organic agave and orange blossom). Explore how you can incorporate seasonal, forageable ingredients and play around with different foaming elements to give your cocktail that frothy wow factor!

The workshop runs from 6:30pm to 8pm and costs £29.99 (including a book with recipes and tips to take home). You have the option to stay on afterwards for cheese and wine/cocktails at the new Cheese & Wine Lounge.

Ready the wine and crackers – it’s time to adorn your cheeseboard with your very own handmade goat’s cheese. If you love your local cheese, Fielding Cottage’s renowned artisan goat’s cheeses are no doubt already on your radar. The tasty trio (Wensum White, Norfolk Mardler and Goat’s Curd) appear on restaurant cheeseboards and deli counters across the UK. From humble beginnings in 2009 making cheese in the kitchen sink, Fielding Cottage now has a state-of-the-art production building at their working farm in Honingham (where you’ll also find their Muddy Awards 2022 winning farm shop and cafe, The Goat Shed). Led by skilled cheesemakers, the day’s course includes a tour of the factory, a crash course in the science behind the process, lunch at The Goat Shed Kitchen (cheese grazing board, naturally) and plenty of time to roll up your sleeves and get stuck into crafting your own cheese to take home. Whey cool!

The workshop runs from 9am-3pm (approx.) and costs £95 (including a certificate, booklet covering everything you have learned and box of goat’s cheese to enjoy). Check the website for upcoming dates.

The largest gin school in East Anglia sounds like our kinda school! Hands up if you want to impress your mates with some sophisticated gin-making know how. This immersive experience is held at Gyre & Gimble’s new Gin Academy in the Royal Arcade (the distillery and cocktail bar – a Muddy Awards 2022 finalist – is just a five-minute stroll away). With G&T in hand, you’ll get to create your very own gin using a selection of botanicals of your choice, guided by a master distiller. Learn all about the history of gin and enjoy four delicious gin-based cocktails (hic).

The workshop runs for two hours and costs £75 (including your own personalised bottle of gin to take home and you recipe kept on file ready to be reproduced at any time).

Set amongst wild woods, chalk streams and fields, Routier Cookery School opens up a world of delicious, fresh food to people of all levels of culinary experience, under the expert tutelage of head chef Tabitha Turner. Dame Prue Leith trained, Tabitha has owned pubs, restaurants and delis, and in Sept 2021 opened her first cookery school in West Acre, located among a clutch of cool indie businesses including Duration Brewery, West Acre Theatre and Gallery. With drinks flowing throughout and plenty of tasty nibbles, this is a fun, relaxed, get-stuck-in experience, with learner chefs working in pairs at one of the multiple cooking stations in the central island of this state-of-the-art kitchen. The day or evening course culminates in a large dinner party in the dining room or on the terrace, where you can tuck into your culinary creations with paired wines. (You may need a taxi home!) The myriad of mouth-watering courses includes world cuisine (Indian Thali, Greek, Mexican Street Food, Spanish Tapas, Middle Eastern Meze), beginner’s vegan and vegetarian, and a traditional wood-fire pizza course.

Full day course, from 11am to 4pm, £150; evening course, from 6pm – 9pm, £75 (including recipes and pointers to take home).

A big fat culinary thumbs up for the fun, informative and hands-on courses at this award-winning cookery school in Norwich. Brush up your kitchen skills and learn new techniques under the vast knowledge of chef tutor Richard Hughes in the lovely purpose-built kitchen overlooking the picturesque courtyard and fountain at The Assembly House. Surrounded by vintage kitchenalia and French copper pans, you’ll learn how to create flashy menus with a Norfolk twist or a little French oh-la-la. There’s even a masterclass divulging the secrets behind The Assembly House’s famous afternoon teas, and an opportunity to book your own bespoke cooking experience (how about a competitive bake off with your friends?). After you’ve whipped up your delicious dishes to take home, you’re invited to hang up your pinny and enjoy a glass of wine while Richard and the team cook and serve you lunch or afternoon tea.

Hands-on courses run from 9.30am until 3pm and cost £160 (including recipes to take home).

Here’s your chance to treat your friends to a home-cooked range of healthy vegetarian and vegan Indian dishes. Definitely one of our Friday night favourites – Namaste Village in Norwich shares its spice secrets at their monthly cookery classes where Chef Dalsukh Jetani will teach you how to magic up a masala and dazzle with a dahl.

Classes are every third Sunday of the month, run from 9am to 12pm and cost £65

She taught the world to cook for more than 50 years so who better to pick up some culinary tips from than Delia Smith herself? Perhaps more famous in these here parts for her passionate involvement with the Canaries than her culinary prowess, Delia is still the original queen of home cookery. Delia’s Food & Wine Workshops are hosted throughout by Delia and chef Alex Mackay and include a live cookery demonstration from Alex, coffee and cake on arrival, a three-course lunch and a tutored wine tasting.

Workshops run from 10.30am to 5pm and cost £125 (including goody bag to take home).
